The Member for Dubbo Troy Grant characterised today's strike action organised by the Public Service Association (PSA) as unwarranted and unreasonable given the Industrial Relations Commission (IRC) ruling last week.

The IRC had ordered the Public Service Association (PSA) and its members to refrain from holding a stop work meeting today.

A number of stop work meetings were held across the state including Dubbo.

"The PSA has demonstrated a complete lack of respect for the process that they have entered into over wage negotiations with the Government and this unilateral action by the unions should be seen for the politically expedient act that it is," said Mr Grant.

"It seems ironic the PSA argues the need for an independent umpire in the IRC, yet sees fit to ignore the advice the IRC has given them."

Mr Grant said the NSW Government is paying public servants a minimum wage rise of 2.5%, currently greater than inflation.

"This is fair for public servants and affordable for the State," said Mr Grant.

"We're happy to look at conditions to offset a wage rise above 2.5% and we’ve put forward some options, the PSA has chosen to reject those and failed to come back with what they consider is acceptable."

“We are bringing public service wages under control while ensuring that those who boost productivity and achieve savings can secure higher wage increases."
