The Premier of NSW, the Honourable Barry O'Farrell, presented community service awards to two of Dubbo's finest volunteers at a special ceremony at the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) Base in Dubbo, the Member for Dubbo Troy Grant said today.

Both Judy Jakins and Andrew McKay have long standing records of support for the RFDS and other worthwhile community organisations within the region.

The pair were honoured at an afternoon tea attended by the Premier and Minister for Health Jillian Skinner, in the presence of some 130 invited guests.

"Judy and Andrew have given tirelessly to their communities, both are deserving recipients of the NSW Government Community Service Award," said Mr Grant.

"This award recognises people throughout NSW who have substantially contributed to the improvement of the quality of life of members of their community, beyond that expected in their usual occupation."

Both Judy and Andrew received an engraved Award as well as an official certificate bearing the NSW State Coat of Arms and the Premier’s signature.

Whilst in Dubbo, Mr O'Farrell also turned a sod at the soon to commence $79.8m Dubbo Base Hospital re-development with Minister Skinner and Mr Grant.

"The Premier's visit underlined his keen interest in the electorate and his commitment to delivering improved infrastructure and services to regional communities."

Barry O'Farrell will visit Dubbo for the first time as Premier on October 10 as part of his tour to the region, the Member for Dubbo Troy Grant announced today.

The Premier accompanied by Health Minister Skinner will turn a sod to mark the soon to commence $79.8 million Dubbo Base Hospital re-development.

"Demonstrating the NSW Government's commitment to improved regional health facilities, Jillian Skinner has made a number of visits to oversee the re-development in recent months," said Mr Grant.

"The Premier's visit will give him the opportunity to gain a firsthand perspective of this important infrastructure project that his Government has made a generous contribution toward."

Mr O'Farrell will then attend afternoon tea at the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) Dubbo Base. The event has been organised in order to acknowledge the significant contribution made by local RFDS and community service volunteers from the Dubbo electorate.

"The Premier will be on hand to personally present community service awards in recognition of hardworking volunteers who give tirelessly to the community," said Mr Grant.

"The Premier's visit to Dubbo underlines his keen interest in the electorate and a demonstrated commitment to delivering improved infrastructure and services to regional communities."

Mr O'Farrell will also visit Orange prior to making his way to Dubbo.
