The Member for Dubbo Troy Grant today announced a local community group would receive $250,000 for a project aimed at restoring bushland along the Macquarie River.

Mr Grant said on World Environment Day (June 5) the grant was part of an $8 million NSW Government program to fix degraded natural bushland sites.

“In a challenging economic environment this funding targets key community groups who are best placed to protect their local environment,” Mr Grant said.

“Dubbo Macquarie River Bushcare will receive the grant for a project aimed at assisting the recovery of the endangered Trout Cod.

“This project will repair and enhance priority habitat areas within Crown reserves and private land along a 100 kilometre reach of the Macquarie River near Dubbo.

“Dubbo Macquarie River Bushcare has planned working bees and training days to carry out the works which will include reintroduction of large woody habitat, erosion repair, weed control and re-establishment of riparian vegetation,” Mr Grant said.

The Dubbo project is among 33 across the state to share in $8 million under the Community Bush Regeneration Large Project grants, part of the Environmental Restoration and Rehabilitation program.

Administered by the NSW Environmental Trust, these grants deliver on the NSW Government’s commitment to regenerate degraded natural bushland including riverbanks, waterways and urban bushland.

The grants are aimed at larger scale longer term projects which will build capacity for local community groups to protect, restore and enhance our environment.
