The Member for Dubbo Troy Grant will bring his experience as a former police officer to a Parliamentary inquiry investigating the state's alcohol laws.
Mr Grant will sit on the Social Policy Committee, chaired by Bruce Notley-Smith, to look into the laws about the supply of alcohol to minors in private homes and examine legislation in other states.
NSW Premier Barry O’Farrell launched the inquiry this week, outlining that laws dealing with minors drinking in private residences are less clear and widely ignored.
Under the Government's plan, adults would face a maximum 12 months' jail for supplying alcohol to any minor who is not their own child.
Mr Grant is encouraging police, the public and stakeholders to make submissions to the inquiry.
"Because these laws have been around for many years, many parents are oblivious to their responsibilities about minors drinking at home," said Mr Grant.
"This is an opportunity for the community to put their ideas forward and I strongly encourage police, the public and interested organisations to make submissions.
"The NSW Government wants to send a clear message to the community that underage drinking will not be tolerated, but it needs your help doing that."
